Somebody in Round 7, Pick 40 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Le'Veon Moss, the No. 148 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It washes out to a C-, no better and no worse.
Brosmer has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Ezekiel Elliott deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
So much rides on Luther Burden III that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Donovan Jackson at the 86th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Blake Miller in pick 118 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan James at No. 122 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Malachi Moore at slot 127 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board fumbled Mason Taylor all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for JJ Pegues at the 164th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into CJ West at Round 5, Pick 32, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Danny Stutsman in Round 5, Pick 35 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a safety like Keon Sabb reach the 176th pick and blink. They did not. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They paid a round early for O'Donnell Fortune in pick No. 204, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Circle this one: Robert Spears-Jennings at slot 207 is a fall that decides a draft. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Max Brosmer in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kaden Prather in No. 239 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Garrett Dellinger in pick 247 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Le'Veon Moss in the 256th overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
