Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Lathan Ransom got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the 167th overall pick.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Skattebo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They read the board right and Harold Fannin Jr. was the payoff at No. 63. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach for Cam Skattebo in pick No. 89; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jared Wilson at the 127th pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Darius Alexander in slot 132; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Lathan Ransom still on the board at pick 167. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 243rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
