The rest of the league will want that one back. Dylan Sampson tumbling to the Texans in pick 127 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
If Martin pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a No. 1 receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had Alfred Collins higher than slot 66, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Donovan Jackson at pick No. 89 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Noel in the 95th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Dylan Sampson all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Darius Alexander in No. 167 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nick Martin at the 243rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kitan Crawford at Round 7, Pick 38 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
