Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Lathan Ransom, the No. 109 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 167. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Texans paired the rookies with proven help, Leonard Fournette leading the way.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at pick No. 58 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Donovan Jackson at Round 3, Pick 31 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Cam Skattebo went about where he belonged in pick 101. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jared Wilson in No. 127 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Lathan Ransom at the 167th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reasonable price with a little left over, John Williams in the 243rd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
