The Texans torched the value chart for DJ Campbell, taking him 62 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Higgins at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though they paid up to get him.
Charles Grant at the 58th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Devin Neal in the 127th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Hayden Conner at Round 5, Pick 24 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on DJ Campbell in pick 167, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Jay Higgins in pick No. 188 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Miles Frazier at No. 217 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Kyle Monangai all the way to pick 243, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Kamren Fabiculanan in the 247th pick, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
