Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Ajani Cornelius, the No. 114 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 5 slot. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a seam-stretching tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Jonah Savaiinaea slipping to Round 2, Pick 26 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 89 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cam Skattebo at No. 127 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Ajani Cornelius at the 167th pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
LaJohntay Wester slid further than he should have, and slot 243 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
