The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Texans watched Emery Jones Jr. slide 39 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Alfred Collins in slot 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Andrew Mukuba in the 89th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cam Skattebo in No. 127 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Emery Jones Jr. was still sitting there in the 167th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
