The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Domonique Orange fell into pick No. 110. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Alijah Vera-Tucker deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Peter Woods slid further than he should have, and pick 38 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Gennings Dunker, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Anthony Hill Jr. was still sitting there in the 59th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eli Stowers in pick No. 68. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Mike Washington Jr. in Round 3, Pick 8 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Connor Lew at the 98th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Treydan Stukes still on the board at No. 106. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Domonique Orange at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Skyler Bell at Round 4, Pick 14 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
