Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Texans were there to profit. Sheridan Jones, the No. 212 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 239.
Every board in the league had Allen lower, and that gap is the story. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value.
Junior Colson in the 59th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Braelon Allen at slot 123, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Justin Eboigbe in No. 127, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 164, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Sheridan Jones at the 239th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donell Harris Jr.. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
