Green Bay Packers

The Packers robbed the room for Davis. Final grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Isaiah Davis at the 216th overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Knox pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 20
Byron Murphy II at No. 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 30
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Quinyon Mitchell in pick 41. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 41
Xavier Worthy slipping to the 58th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 89
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 25; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 97
A straight-up fair deal on Audric Estime at slot 91, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 136
A reach for Cedric Gray in pick No. 127; a little patience would have been rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Trey Knox · TE · rank 188
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Knox in the 168th pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 185
They robbed the room for Curtis Jacobs here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 190
Isaiah Davis in the 216th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 252
They jumped the gun on Trente Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Kenny Logan Jr. · S · rank 228
Taking Kenny Logan Jr. in slot 251 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
