The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Haladay reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 34 with a little surplus value in Troy Fautanu. The roster fit checks out.
Malachi Corley at pick No. 68 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Max Melton in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They liked Mohamed Kamara enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 105. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dallin Holker in the 139th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 4, with Jha'Quan Jackson worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Cal Haladay at the 232nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
