You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Giants did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Justin Fields gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 2 of 9 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Rome Odunze in the 6th pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In slot 20 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Keon Coleman at Round 2, Pick 7 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
