Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals bet the future on Ward. The board says D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cardinals did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

Everything downstream of Cam Ward depends on Cam Ward, and the building knows it. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Ward pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and wide receiver is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Travis Hunter · CB · rank 1
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
R1.17 · Pick 17 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In No. 17 they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Cam Ward · QB · rank 6
In the 31st overall pick they get the arm they will build around, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
