Somewhere a general manager is explaining how TreVeyon Henderson got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 3. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They are betting Smith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Adding Myles Garrett by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

In slot 29 they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Donovan Jackson went about where he belonged in the 79th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 148 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach pick No. 181 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Cody Simon at Round 6, Pick 29 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
They barely believed it either: Hayden Conner still on the board at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tim Smith this early at the 250th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
