Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Mustapha at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 11
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 34
No edge and no loss on Troy Fautanu in pick 33; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 44
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. slipping to slot 56 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
A tidy little value on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 65, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 74
Jonathon Brooks in Round 3, Pick 12 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 79
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Christian Haynes at the 87th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 125
Mohamed Kamara at pick 124 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 154
Taking Malik Mustapha in pick No. 174 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · DeWayne Carter · DT · rank 204
DeWayne Carter is a better player than the 212th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Erick All · TE · rank 249
Erick All in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
