Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Every board in the league had Holker lower, and that gap is the story. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Troy Fautanu slid further than he should have, and slot 34 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Xavier Worthy at pick 68 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Devontez Walker all the way to the 103rd pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dallin Holker at the 137th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had Kamal Hadden higher than pick No. 180, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Myles Cole at No. 193 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Josh Proctor in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
