The Patriots did not so much draft Miyan Williams as overpay for him, 61 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
They reached into another round for Xavier Worthy, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zak Zinter in the 103rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Justin Eboigbe at Round 5, Pick 1 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Braiden McGregor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Miyan Williams in No. 193 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma in slot 231 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
