The trade table was a mismatch, and the Packers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. It is not that Williams is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Ikem Ekwonu deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Kamren Kinchens in slot 33 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good price on Chris Braswell in pick No. 41, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Edgerrin Cooper at par in pick 57, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 25, with Christian Mahogany worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in the 92nd pick, where Christian Haynes graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jarrian Jones at the 125th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with James Williams while clear needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Simpson still on the board at the 168th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Magee slid further than he should have, and No. 203 is lovely value for the linebacker. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Circle this one: Miyan Williams at the 217th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in slot 219: Jawhar Jordan for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Chad Lindberg at pick 246, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
