They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: De'Corian Clark, 37 picks early at slot 158. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Williams steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value.
In Round 1, Pick 26 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: James Williams at pick No. 153 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
De'Corian Clark at pick 158 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taulia Tagovailoa at slot 186 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Chad Lindberg in pick 242, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
