The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Domani Jackson fell into the Round 6 slot.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking CJ Allen at linebacker with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
A.J. Haulcy at No. 71 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at the 91st pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in slot 130, where Jalon Kilgore graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Davison Igbinosun was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Eli Raridon at pick 154 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Eric Rivers at the 187th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Domani Jackson in Round 6, Pick 28 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Dallen Bentley all the way to pick No. 223, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
