There is reaching, and then there is Carson Steele at pick No. 240. The Eagles jumped the board by 73 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. Landing Rosengarten that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Darius Robinson at pick 50. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Payton Wilson, who had no business lasting to slot 53. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Braelon Allen at the 97th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Roger Rosengarten slid further than he should have, and the 160th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Sione Vaki in Round 5, Pick 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Walter Rouse at Round 5, Pick 35 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javion Cohen is a better player than slot 178 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A conviction pick on Joe Milton III at pick 189 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Carson Steele. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
