The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Isaac Guerendo fell into the 235th overall pick. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They will need Sundell to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. With tight end, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Xavier Legette at pick No. 64, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end, quarterback and other spots to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 33 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jarrian Jones slid further than he should have, and the 158th pick is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
Tahj Washington at slot 196 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Isaac Guerendo at No. 235 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Jordan Magee higher than the 252nd overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalen Green in Round 7, Pick 33. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A real head-scratcher, Jalen Sundell in slot 254 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Anim Dankwah at pick 257 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
