The tape said wait; the Chiefs did not. DeMonte Capehart went at pick No. 210, a good 88 picks before the board was ready.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wilson. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: tight end settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get protection for the quarterback, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Fair-plus on Chris Braswell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Payton Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
They took Kamal Hadden at par in No. 133, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nice patience on Ben Sinnott, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 22. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Jaylen Wright higher than pick No. 172, and the running back fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on Walter Rouse in pick 250, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
