The Chiefs spent real capital to be 42 picks early on Jarrian Jones, and the board is going to hold them to it. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Landing Smith that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Xavier Legette in No. 64 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jarrian Jones at the 95th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Mason McCormick in slot 132 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Walter Rouse in Round 5, Pick 23; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tykee Smith in pick No. 173. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
