Kansas City Chiefs

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Chiefs: B-.

Some picks age like wine; Christian Jones at slot 158 will need to, sitting 52 spots clear of his grade. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while wide receiver, tight end and other spots went begging. On value alone, Paul makes the weekend a net positive.

They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 21
In the 32nd pick they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 47
Patrick Paul is a better player than No. 64 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 109
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, tight end and other spots to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 126
A reasonable price with a little left over, Justin Eboigbe in slot 133. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 210
They left a pile of value on the table to take Christian Jones this early at the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 190
Value said wait; Isaiah Davis in Round 5, Pick 36 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
