Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Xavier Restrepo, the No. 67 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 224. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot.
Somehow Kenneth Grant was still sitting there in slot 64, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ajani Cornelius slipping to the 69th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Oscar Delp in No. 96, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Ashton Gillotte at pick No. 128 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Tre Harris here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Wyatt Milum in pick 193 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Xavier Restrepo at Round 7, Pick 32 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
