You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Javon Solomon in the 82nd overall pick.
The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and interior defensive lineman. However the rest shakes out, Eboigbe at that price is a win they earned. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Patrick Paul in slot 46 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Roman Wilson at pick 64 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A want over a need in Round 3, Pick 18: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while quarterback and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Darius Robinson at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
Jarrian Jones at pick No. 106 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy bit of business in No. 133, where Justin Eboigbe graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in the 139th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Wright went about where he belonged in No. 158. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They liked Michael Barrett enough to skip the value, taking him in the 172nd pick. The roster fit checks out.
A conviction pick on Christian Jones at Round 6, Pick 18 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
