The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Giants spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Rouse reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive.
On the needs board they went 6 of 9, with safety the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jermaine Burton. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Jonathon Brooks at pick No. 47 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at the 70th pick, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tykee Smith at the 107th overall pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Theo Johnson in No. 145 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Jones at Round 6, Pick 10 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Walter Rouse, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
