For all the boxes ticked, the Chiefs skipped the loudest one: tight end is exactly as bare as it was.
Barrett falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Reaching for McGregor left real value on the table behind him.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid a round early for Xavier Legette in slot 64, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Christian Mahogany at par in the 95th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Isaac Guerendo at No. 133 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Braiden McGregor at Round 5, Pick 23 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Walter Rouse in pick No. 173 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Michael Barrett at the 252nd pick is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
