Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Xavier Restrepo got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at the 193rd overall pick. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The trade work was a quiet net positive. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jack Sawyer at the 32nd overall pick is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in slot 64: Maxwell Hairston for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Ajani Cornelius at No. 69 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Ashton Gillotte at Round 4, Pick 4 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Tre Harris still on the board at pick 128. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Caden Prieskorn at the 160th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Xavier Restrepo in pick No. 193 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Wyatt Milum at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
