Washington Commanders

The Commanders drew a line under the quarterback search with Daniels: A-.

Trades A+
Future A+

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They are betting Henderson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Saquon Barkley pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jayden Daniels and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.6 · Pick 6 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 8
In pick No. 6 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 34
Troy Fautanu in No. 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 37
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 47
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in pick 40. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 61
Good price on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 67, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 80
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Haynes a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 93
Roman Wilson in the 100th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 99
Fair-plus on Tyler Davis, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 163
A wild overpay on LaDarius Henderson in the 141st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 221
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dwight McGlothern. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 236
Miles Frazier in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
