The Vikings lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The Vikings indulged a want in Smith-Wade while a need in safety, running back and other spots stayed open.
That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a sticky cover corner. More want than need.
In pick No. 27 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Tyler Guyton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Xavier Worthy at pick 66 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Cedric Gray in the 108th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
