The Chargers bet big and early on Jordan Travis, 30 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Egbuka at that price is a win they earned.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emeka Egbuka at slot 40 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Tyler Guyton, who had no business lasting to pick 72. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jordan Travis at the 108th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Mike Sainristil at par in Round 5, Pick 9, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Keith Randolph Jr. in pick No. 186 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in pick No. 229: Jordan Whittington for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
