Arizona Cardinals

A passer of the future in Maye, and a B-, for the Cardinals.

The tape said wait; the Cardinals did not. Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint went at the 71st overall pick, a good 151 picks before the board was ready. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Drake Maye is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. Landing McLachlan that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 7
In the 4th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 59
They reached a country mile for Jaylen Wright at the 27th pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 66
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ja'Lynn Polk. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 41
Somehow Ja'Tavion Sanders was still sitting there in No. 66, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint · WR · rank 222
A wild overpay on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the Round 3 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 189
Justin Eboigbe at pick 82 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 99
Mekhi Wingo in No. 90 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 88
A quiet steal in pick No. 104: Sedrick Van Pran for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 117
Cedric Gray in the 138th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · KT Leveston · OT · rank 210
This one needs a full-page explanation: KT Leveston in slot 162, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.16 · Pick 191 · Trajan Jeffcoat · DL-EDGE · rank 265
Trajan Jeffcoat in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Tanner McLachlan · TE · rank 199
They barely believed it either: Tanner McLachlan still on the board at Round 7, Pick 6. A need, and now a little less of one.
