Thirty-one other rooms let Xavier Restrepo slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at pick 191. Highway robbery. A weekend to file away and forget, and an F to match.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Cam Ward gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
If Higgins pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 7 they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Cam Ward in pick No. 11 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
In pick No. 12 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nick Emmanwori at slot 34 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A edge rusher of that caliber at the 38th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Abdul Carter was still sitting there in No. 40, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They let Jack Sawyer come to them and pounced at the 43rd overall pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kenneth Grant at pick 44. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They barely believed it either: Ashton Jeanty still on the board at Round 3, Pick 1. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Harold Fannin Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at the 75th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to slot 77, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Dylan Fairchild in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jack Bech at the 107th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jahdae Barron in No. 109 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Garrett Nussmeier in Round 4, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
T.J. Sanders at pick 114 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Jayden Higgins in the 120th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tre Harris in pick 130 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
