Nobody had Nick Nash this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 117 spots to get him at No. 143. The final tally is a middling C.
The Gordon II value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a blindside protector, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
They read the board right and Jalon Walker was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 10. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Tyler Booker at slot 44 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Burch. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They liked Tez Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 107th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Nick Nash at No. 143, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
A running back of that caliber at the 219th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Clay Webb at pick 222 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Jonah Monheim in the Round 7 slot, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
