The rest of the league will want that one back. Tacario Davis tumbling to the Cardinals in Round 4, Pick 18 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Collins pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach for Josh Conerly Jr. in slot 18; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Garrett Nussmeier in the 50th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on Alfred Collins in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taking Tacario Davis in pick 119 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid up for Jack Bech at No. 155 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
