You build a draft on nights like this. Keionte Scott had no business being available in the 92nd overall pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They will need Lawrence to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Malachi Lawrence this early at pick 25. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the 60th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Keionte Scott here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Connor Lew reach the 112th pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Skyler Gill-Howard went about where he belonged in No. 152. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in pick No. 177 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Aiden Fisher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
