Call it larceny. Bhayshul Tuten sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 1, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The Hawes pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to the 38th pick, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Ozzy Trapilo at the 69th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Alfred Collins at pick No. 77 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Carson Schwesinger at No. 105 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 6 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Bhayshul Tuten at slot 219 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackson Hawes well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xzavier Henderson in the 240th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
