The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Bhayshul Tuten slide 72 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, with Will Campbell leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 38 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at No. 45 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Alfred Collins, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Carson Schwesinger still on the board at the 105th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Hollin Pierce at the 145th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay RJ Harvey at Round 7, Pick 1 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 222 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cam Horsley at the Round 7 slot is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jackson Hawes in slot 240 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
