Washington Commanders

The Commanders worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-.

The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.

The cost of the Sinnott reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
In No. 26 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.27 · Pick 27 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 21
In pick 27 they get juice off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 26
Troy Fautanu at Round 2, Pick 3 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Bo Nix · QB · rank 31
Bo Nix in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 43
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at the 40th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 47
Value with a capital V on Kris Jenkins in slot 57, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 72
Nice patience on Jaden Hicks, who had no business lasting to pick No. 89. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 84
They read the board right and Khyree Jackson was the payoff at the 99th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 132
Ben Sinnott in Round 4, Pick 1 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 151
They liked Dylan Laube enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 138. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Luke McCaffrey is a better player than pick No. 178 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 193
You do not let a cornerback like Elijah Jones reach No. 222 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
