The Commanders treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 7 slot on Jimmy Horn Jr. a full 59 spots early. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Getting Judkins where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge at fair value. A real need, handled.
In slot 29 they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Tate Ratledge in pick 32 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in No. 58: Tyler Warren for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dylan Sampson at pick No. 61 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tez Johnson in the 103rd overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Quinshon Judkins was still sitting there in the 146th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tonka Hemingway at slot 202 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jimmy Horn Jr. this early at pick 235. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylen Reed in No. 246 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
