Dallas Cowboys

Grand theft in No. 174: the Cowboys steal Gould and grade out a D-.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cowboys, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Put together, it is a D-.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Sundell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Gould falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.17 · Pick 17 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 17
In pick 17 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
R1.20 · Pick 20 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 21
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.24 · Pick 24 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 22
In the 24th overall pick they get juice off the edge. More want than need.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 31
A quiet steal in pick No. 48: Jackson Powers-Johnson for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
They will replay Cooper DeJean at the 51st pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
A slide stopped in slot 56, with T'Vondre Sweat worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 84
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 83
They did well to land Calen Bullock in the 87th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Anthony Gould · WR · rank 142
You do not let a wide receiver like Anthony Gould reach pick 174 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 206
They let Jaylan Ford come to them and pounced at pick No. 216. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 247
Jalen Sundell in slot 233 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Nathan Thomas · OT · rank 228
Nathan Thomas slipping to Round 7, Pick 24 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
