Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Nick Nash at pick 143 is 117 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
That Gordon II pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The Campbell pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
If Jalon Walker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
Jalon Walker slipping to the 40th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A curious use of the 71st overall pick. Edge rusher and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a linebacker in Jihaad Campbell did not.
They reached into another round for Tacario Davis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jack Bech in slot 81 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ozzy Trapilo well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nick Nash at the 143rd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Ollie Gordon II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Clay Webb at Round 7, Pick 8 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jonah Monheim at slot 234 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Oscar Delp at the 236th pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
