Washington Commanders

The phones sank the Commanders this weekend: D-.

Nobody else had Bryce Foster anywhere near pick 211. The Commanders did, by 40 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Landing Cameron that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Caleb Downs · S · rank 1
In No. 7 they get a downhill hitter at safety. Need was not the driver here.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Brandon Cisse · CB · rank 36
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brandon Cisse at Round 2, Pick 13 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 38
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Hill Jr. at the 65th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 58
Germie Bernard slipping to pick 71 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Logan Jones · C · rank 91
Logan Jones in slot 104 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.14 · Pick 154 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 161
Nate Boerkircher in the 154th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.2 · Pick 183 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 188
By-the-book stuff, Taylen Green at pick No. 183 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.6 · Pick 187 · Anez Cooper · OG · rank 186
A straight-up fair deal on Anez Cooper at the 187th pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.28 · Pick 209 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 189
Jeff Caldwell at the 209th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.30 · Pick 211 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 251
They talked themselves into Bryce Foster at No. 211, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Josh Cameron · WR · rank 187
Josh Cameron at slot 217 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.7 · Pick 223 · Noah Whittington · RB · rank 226
They took Noah Whittington at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
