When a board-topper like Jake Majors slides to slot 186, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not.
They are betting Jackson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Myles Garrett pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luther Burden III. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Donovan Jackson in the 44th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jihaad Campbell at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Kevin Winston Jr. at the 148th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jordan Hancock at No. 168 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid sticker price for Ollie Gordon II in pick No. 170, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Tahj Brooks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jake Majors in pick 186 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Thor Griffith at Round 7, Pick 32 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
