It is the swing that defines the weekend: Arian Smith in No. 247, a good 118 spots before the room expected him. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Mondon Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a premier pass rusher at fair value.
Good price on Tyleik Williams in the 57th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at pick No. 76 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 25, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Domani Jackson in No. 98 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Savion Williams at pick 99 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Cam Skattebo in pick 115; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Nicholas Singleton in Round 5, Pick 11 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a linebacker like Smael Mondon Jr. reach the 168th pick and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Miles Frazier well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DJ Campbell at pick No. 171 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; J.C. Davis in slot 187 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Le'Veon Moss at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Arian Smith at the 247th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
