After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Neyor.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Chop Robinson went about where he belonged in the 40th pick. The roster fit checks out.
A quiet steal in pick No. 67: Ja'Tavion Sanders for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tykee Smith at the 100th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They did well to land Blake Fisher in slot 102, just ahead of his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaheim Bell in Round 5, Pick 5. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Jaylan Ford was the payoff at pick 181. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A slide stopped in pick 223, with Isaiah Neyor worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
