The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cowboys were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Milton III value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 56 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Marist Liufau in No. 87, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Kris Abrams-Draine in the 124th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kitan Oladapo at pick 166 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Joe Milton III slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 38 is lovely value for the quarterback. It fills a real need, too.
Jawhar Jordan in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in the 245th pick, with Matthew Jones worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
