The trade table was a mismatch, and the Cowboys were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Milton III value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 21
In pick No. 29 they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 52
Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 56 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 86
They paid sticker price for Marist Liufau in No. 87, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 119
They did well to land Kris Abrams-Draine in the 124th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 160
Kitan Oladapo at pick 166 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 162
Joe Milton III slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 38 is lovely value for the quarterback. It fills a real need, too.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Jawhar Jordan · RB · rank 202
Jawhar Jordan in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
A slide stopped in the 245th pick, with Matthew Jones worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.30 · Pick 250 · Eric Gentry · LB · rank 239
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
