Washington Commanders

The Commanders let Hood fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Colton Hood got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at the 206th overall pick. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
Jeremiyah Love at slot 24 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Mansoor Delane · CB · rank 8
Circle this one: Mansoor Delane at Round 2, Pick 17 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 34
The board fumbled Dillon Thieneman all the way to the 65th pick, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Kayden McDonald · DT · rank 20
Kayden McDonald in pick 70 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
You do not let a linebacker like Sonny Styles reach pick No. 71 and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Akheem Mesidor · DL-EDGE · rank 37
Somehow Akheem Mesidor was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.7 · Pick 147 · David Bailey · LB-EDGE · rank 5
They robbed the room for David Bailey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.2 · Pick 183 · Logan Jones · C · rank 88
Logan Jones at No. 183 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.6 · Pick 187 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
They will replay Kenyon Sadiq at No. 187 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.25 · Pick 206 · Colton Hood · CB · rank 25
Colton Hood in pick No. 206 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.28 · Pick 209 · Chase Bisontis · OG · rank 71
Taking Chase Bisontis in slot 209 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 94
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ja'Kobi Lane in the 217th overall pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.7 · Pick 223 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 59
Germie Bernard in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
